PLA vs PETG: Which Filament Should You Choose?

New makers often ask: should I start with PLA or PETG? Both are popular, but they serve very different purposes.

PLA is the beginner-friendly choice. It prints at 190–230 °C, needs minimal cooling, and produces sharp details with almost no warping. It's rigid, easy to post-process, and works on unheated beds. Perfect for figurines, props, desk organizers, and prototypes.

PETG is the workhorse. It prints hotter (220–250 °C), is more flexible, and resists heat and impact far better. It's ideal for functional parts, outdoor use, and anything that needs to survive being dropped. But it strings more, requires better cooling, and can be trickier to dial in.
